About Jenn
Meet Jenn Chawla
Public servant. Mother. Neighbor. Leader.
Jenn Chawla’s commitment to public service is rooted in lived experience, hard-earned opportunity, and a belief that leadership works best when it is transparent, accountable, and grounded in reality.
Born in New Delhi, India, Jenn immigrated to California as a toddler with her mother and three sisters in search of a better life. Raised by a single mother who worked 12–16 hour days at the family liquor store, Jenn learned early what resilience, responsibility, and perseverance truly mean.
She worked from a young age, moved often, and grew up in a household that relied on food stamps, thrift stores, and determination to get by. Through grit and sacrifice, her family eventually purchased their first home in Yuba City in 2000 — a milestone that shaped Jenn’s belief that stability is built, not given.
Roots & Immigrant Beginnings
Those early experiences instilled a deep work ethic and a lasting perspective: leaders who have had to build their lives from the ground up understand the real consequences of policy decisions on everyday families. Jenn put herself through college at the University of California, San Diego, majoring in Political Science with minors in Law & Society and Gender Studies.
She later became a McNair Scholar, a prestigious program preparing underrepresented students for advanced academic and professional paths. Her early career began in labor relations at UC San Diego, where she gained firsthand insight into collective bargaining, worker protections, and the importance of fair, transparent systems.
The Value Of Hard Work
Professional Service & Public Safety
In 2012, Jenn joined the FBI, where she spent 13 years serving in increasingly senior roles — first as an Operational Support Technician, then as an Investigative Specialist, and ultimately as a Supervisory Investigative Specialist managing teams and programs. Her work required precision, accountability, and integrity in high-stakes environments, and it deepened her understanding of public safety, institutional responsibility, and leadership under pressure.
After years of service, Jenn made the difficult decision to leave the FBI when she felt the institution’s direction no longer aligned with her values. She did not walk away from public service — she walked away from complicity. That decision reinforced her belief that leadership requires courage, honesty, and the willingness to stand by one’s principles.
Community & Leadership Today
Today, Jenn is a wife, a mother, and a deeply engaged member of her community. She understands the challenges families face because she has lived them — and she understands systems because she has worked within them.
Jenn is running for City Council to help bring people together, restore trust in local government, and ensure decisions are made with transparency, accountability, and integrity.
She believes our communities deserve leaders who listen, who understand both struggle and structure, and who are committed to serving with clarity and compassion.
